Juno Awards 2016: Events being held around Calgary this week
Take in the crescendo of culture that comes with Juno week
The award show may be on Sunday, but there are lots of events and live music around the city this week before the celebrities hit the Junos' red carpet in Calgary.
You'll find a sample of what's going on below, and you can learn more about all the events at the Juno Hub at The Core Shopping Centre downtown.
The Juno Hub is run by volunteers and open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Juno Photography Exhibition
This retrospective exhibit showcases more than 40 years of Canadian music and the Juno Awards. It features never-before-seen photos taken by Canada's foremost rock and roll photographers, as well as about 50 photos from the Juno Awards 40th anniversary book.
Until April 29 during regular gallery hours. Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
Juno Tour of Canadian Art
This exhibit has travelled across Canada with selected art from Juno award nominees and winners that resonates with them personally or artistically. Viewers can see the their responses by using tablets located nearby. Participating artists include 54-40, Alan Doyle, AM Static, Corb Lund, Old Man Luedecke, Rufus Wainwright and The Trews.

Juno Cup Jam
This fundraising concert features performances by Juno Cup players with all proceeds benefiting MusiCounts. It's promised to be a night of "fun musical collaborations and covers" to kick off Juno weekend. Headliners include Gord Bamford, Brett Kissel, Shawn Hook and Whitehorse, but you have to be older than 18 to attend.

The Homestretch at The Ironwood
Join CBC Calgary's Doug Dirks and Jenny Howe for a live broadcast of the Homestretch on location at the Ironwood from 3-6 p.m. They'll be joined by Calgary jazz musician Al Muirhead, nominated for his first Juno at age of 80, and the show will feature live performances by Juno nominees including Calgary's own Sykamore. You've got to be there for your chance to win passes to the Juno Sound Check, Red Carpet Audience, and Awards Broadcast.

Junofest Indigenous Showcase
Artists include Armond Duck Chief, Black Bear, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Cris Derksen, Derek Miller and Don Amero.

Shane Koyczan
Presented by Tooth Blackner, this show featuring spoken word and poetry will be at the Knox United Church.

Dzeko & Torres
Presented by UnionElectronic and Ink Promotions, this dance music show featuring the Canadian duo will be held at the Marquee Market and Stage.

Juno Cup
There will be tons of celebrities facing off at this non-contact hockey game raising money for MusiCounts. Not only NHL greats but Canadian musicians from Blue Rodeo, The Tenors, Whitehorse and many more. Tickets are $20 and available through Ticketmaster.

Let's just say there's tons of cool musicians — nominees and well-known artists included — hitting up 15 venues in Calgary. The two-night music celebration features three or four acts in each spot.

Classical Nominees' Showcase
This concert at the Scarboro United Church includes the Canadian Chamber Choir, Dinuk Wijeratne, Elinor Frey, Jeff Reilly and Luminous Voices, John Burge, Maria Soulis and Megumi Masaki. Entry is by donation or free for the first 25 JunoFest wristband holders. CBC Music's Katherine Duncan will emcee this intimate concert featuring Canada's foremost classical music talent.

Juno Fan Fare
This popular Juno event gives Canadian music fans the opportunity to meet their favourite artists. Free tickets were given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Here are some expected stars: Alessia Cara, Autumn Hill, Brett Kissel, Chad Brownlee, Dean Brody, Dear Rouge, Francesco Yates, George Canyon, Marianas Trench, Ria Mae, Scott Helman, Shawn Hook and Walk off the Earth.

Marianas Trench
Marianas Trench, Walk Off The Earth and Keiran Mercer will be hitting up the Corral before it comes down. First 25 lucky JunoFest wristband holders get in free, as according to TicketMaster Sunday night there are "not many [tickets] left."

Juno Songwriters' Circle
Paul Brandt brings together some of the most talented Canadian singer-songwriters to share songs and stories on stage. Tickets range from $27 to $60 at ArtsCommons.ca.

Public Red Carpet
Juno Award ticket holders will get to join in on the red carpet glamour. The Calgary Stampede Show Band will be on hand for entertainment.

Juno Award Show
The 2016 Juno Awards airs live from Calgary's Saddledome with co-hosts musician Jann Arden and Olympian and TV host Jon Montgomery. Tickets are pretty much sold out, but there may be a few single seats left.
Performers include Alessia Cara, Bryan Adams, Coleman Hell, Dean Brody, Dear Rouge, Scott Helman, Shawn Hook, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd and Whitehorse.

Junior Junos
This sold-out event gives even the smallest music fan a chance to walk the red carpet. The family-oriented concert features the 2016 Children's Album of the Year Juno Award nominees.
Drop-In Centre Performance
A Juno-nominated artist will give a short performance at the Calgary Drop-in Centre — North America's largest homeless shelter — on March 31.
Airport Performances
Visitors arriving at YYC arrival areas will be greeted by local artists from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday to Sunday.
Transit Busking Program
Local buskers will take their acts onto city C-Trains throughout week, giving Calgarians and out-of-town visitors a taste of the vibrant talent right here in Calgary. Call 403-835-0711 for details.
