Heading out in Calgary this long weekend? Be aware of these road closures and other service disruptions
There is free street parking on Monday and holiday rates will be in effect at CPA lots and parkades
Calgarians eager to seize the last long weekend of summer should plan ahead to avoid road closures and be aware that some municipal services won't be available.
Here's a rundown of what to expect over the Labour Day long weekend.
Road Closures
Both the Shaw Charity Classic golf tournament and Calgary Pride Parade take place over the holiday weekend, and these events will affect certain roadways.
During the Pride Parade on Sunday, between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m, crowds are reminded to watch out for police who will be directing traffic.
Ongoing city construction will also continue to affect roads in nearly every quadrant of the city.
You can find a list on the city's website with a full breakdown of road closures before heading out. Or, if you prefer, an interactive map.
Transit, parking and landfills
Bus service on Monday will run on a Sunday schedule.
Over the weekend, the red line of the C-Train will also have closures between City Hall Station and Chinook Station and at Fish Creek-Lacombe Station.
More information is available at calgarytransit.com or by following @calgarytransit on Twitter.
Free on-street parking will be available in ParkPlus zones on Monday, as well as holiday rates in certain Calgary Parking Authority surface lots and parkades.
And if you're getting a head start on fall cleaning, you should know that the East Calgary landfill is open every day this weekend from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the Spyhill and Shepard landfills are both closed Sunday.
Spyhill will open again Monday at 7:30 a.m. and Shepard at 8 a.m. Monday.
Sports and leisure
All pools except the Village Square Leisure Centre are closed Monday.
The Calgary Soccer Centre, all arenas and athletic parks are also closed Monday, unless they were booked in advance.
