Man dies after being hit by truck east of Lake Louise on Highway 1

A man is dead and a woman has been transported to hospital after being hit on the side of a highway by a truck east of Lake Louise, Alta., according to RCMP.

Traffic was reduced to one lane and motorists were asked to avoid the area

A man is dead and a woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a truck on the side of the Trans-Canada Highway in southern Alberta, according to RCMP.

The pair were hit at approximately 9:15 a.m. Thursday on Highway 1, just east of Lake Louise. 

The 39-year-old man from Ontario suffered severe injuries, RCMP said. EMS and STARS air ambulance arrived at the scene but were unable to resuscitate the man.

The woman was taken to an area hospital with undetermined injuries. No update was immediately available on her condition.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, RCMP said. 

Westbound traffic in the area was temporarily reduced to one lane.
