Measles outbreak in Calgary, central zone declared over

Alberta Health Services is officially declaring the measles outbreak over for the Calgary and Central health zones.

The outbreak was declared in April.

In a written statement on Thursday, health officials said measles activity in the two areas has dropped.

A measles outbreak can be declared over when no new infectious cases have been reported for 42 days.

Effective immediately, AHS will not be offering an early additional dose of measles vaccine to infants six months of age to less than 12 months in the two zones.

The measles outbreak declared in the Edmonton region is still in effect.
