Mom of baby in dumpster charged with attempted murder
Newborn survived after being rescued from Calgary garbage bin in 2010
The infant was heard crying from inside the garbage bin by a woman who was passing by the townhouse complex on the afternoon of Oct. 20, 2010.
She alerted a man who had just arrived in a vehicle, and he jumped inside the bin to get the baby boy.
The baby was taken to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
After a lengthy investigation, Meredith Katharine Borowiec, 30 was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, child abandonment and failure to provide the necessities of life for a child, police said.
It was revealed one day after the incident that the man who removed the baby from the bin was the father.
He told authorities he had not realized his girlfriend was pregnant, but that she had complained that morning of not feeling well.
