Calgary Humane Society officials recently seized 1,037 domesticated mice from a northeast home.
Also taken from the home were three dogs, three cats and 80 fish.
Officials said 257 animals had to be euthanized due to injuries. They did not provide an address.
"By volume, this is the largest animal seizure in Calgary history," said senior manager Brad Nichols in a press release.
"It will take some time to sift through all of the veterinary evidence, but it is fair to say that charges are pending."
Health inspectors also determined that the home was not habitable due to unsanitary conditions, according to the Calgary Humane Society.
