Calgary police say they now believe a suspicious death that occurred in the city in 2022 is a homicide.

Rhonda Waite, 55, was found dead in the city's northeast neighbourhood of Crescent Heights, on Aug. 20, 2022. Police began investigating the case after they were called to the 200 block of 14th Avenue N.E. around 6:45 p.m. that evening, to respond to reports of an unknown body that was found at an abandoned residence.

Investigators said at the time they believed the death was suspicious, and that they believed the woman had died several days before her body was discovered.

An autopsy later identified the person as Waite, who also went by the name Rhonda Joroszek.

On Tuesday, police said witnesses came forward to offer information in relation to Waite during the two and a half years since the investigation began, and based on this evidence, investigators now believe the incident to be a homicide.

The residence where Waite's body was discovered has since been demolished.

Police are asking anyone who was in the 200 block of 14th Avenue N.E., or who was near the residence where Waite's body was found, to contact them.
