Bow Island RCMP officer charged with sexual assault
Const. Elliot Teed accused of touching woman 'in a sexual manner' during traffic stop last year
An RCMP officer in southern Alberta has been charged with sexual assault in connection with a traffic stop last year.
Const. Elliot Teed of the Bow Island detachment faces one count of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust stemming from the incident on Feb. 12, 2015.
A woman who was stopped by Teed for a possible traffic infraction complained four days later that the officer had touched her "in a sexual manner" as he searched her, the RCMP said in a release.
Teed has been suspended from duty since June 2015 and will remain off duty until the charges against him are resolved.
"His suspension is standard RCMP practice and not a disciplinary measure," the RCMP said.
An internal code of conduct investigation in connection with the alleged incident will resume once the court process is completed, the RCMP said.
