Red Deer taxi crash kills 1

One person is dead after a Red Deer taxi was rear-ended by a truck while stopped at an intersection early Saturday morning.

Weather and road conditions are not being considered factors in the crash

One person is dead after a Red Deer taxi was rear-ended by a truck while stopped at an intersection early Saturday morning.

RCMP and Red Deer EMS were called to the crash at the intersection of 30th Avenue and 32nd Street around 3:30 a.m. 

According to police, the Alberta Gold Taxi was stopped at the intersection facing northbound when a truck travelling north rear-ended it, causing extensive damage.

The taxi had one customer in the rear passenger seat, who succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The driver was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital and is being treated for a serious injury. 

The driver of the truck was also transported to the hospital and is being treated there.

Police say weather and road conditions are not being considered factors in the crash.

The victim's name is not being released as his next of kin have not yet been notified.
