A couple charged with first-degree murder in the death of their diabetic son will not be released on bail.

Rodica and Emil Radita were charged in February after their 15-year-old son Alex was found dead, severely emaciated and confined to his bed in a Citadel Drive home. He weighed less than 40 pounds.

A judge denied the couple bail in a Calgary courtroom Monday.

Court documents showed his parents had a history of not treating the boy for diabetes.

Five grown children who also lived in the home were not charged.
