A passerby found the white bulldog-cross wandering around a strip mall suffering from large facial and hind wounds, severe emaciation and eye and ear infections, the society said.

The Good Samaritan brought the animal to an emergency veterinary clinic in northwest Calgary, where staff named the dog Ruby.

It died while it was under anesthetic for operations to repair the most serious injuries, the society said.

The Calgary Humane Society is asking for help from the public as they look for the person who owned Ruby. The society's cruelty investigations manager says charges are warranted. (Calgary Humane Society)

“This poor dog has no permanent identifications and as a result we are very limited in our ability to investigate further,” said the society’s cruelty investigations manager Brad Nichols.

The society is looking for help from the public to find the person who owned the dog.

Anyone with information is asked to call 403-205-4455.

“This is some of the most severe overall neglect I have witnessed and, most certainly, would warrant charges for animal cruelty,” Nichols said.
