Man, 41, dead after northeast Calgary shooting

Police received several calls on Thursday evening about shots heard near the Flying J Cardlock gas station around 24th Avenue and 23rd Street N.E.

Calgary police say they believe a fatal shooting in the city's Vista Heights neighbourhood Thursday was a targeted attack.

Police said they were called to the 2500 block of 23rd Street N.E. just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday. There, officers found one man who had been shot. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and has since been upgraded to stable.

A short time later, officers responded to two collisions believed to be related to the shooting.

Police say one man, who appeared to have been shot, was found dead at the scene of a nearby collision in the 2700 block of 23rd Street N.E. Police have identified that man as Graeme Lee McColm, 41. 

Police took one man into custody at the scene of the second collision near the intersection of 26th Street N.E. and Sunridge Boulevard N.E. 

 Police say one man has been charged with second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. 

Corrections

  • Police previously issued a release that said the victim was found dead at the scene of the shooting. In fact, he was found at the scene of a nearby collision.
