Shots fired at police executing search warrant in east Calgary
Shots fired prior to police entering residence in Penbrooke Meadows, no injuries reported
Police say shots were fired in the direction of tactical unit officers Thursday as they were executing a search warrant at a residence in the east Calgary community of Penbrooke Meadows.
The situation, which began around 3:30 p.m., was still ongoing at 10 p.m., when police issued a statement on social media saying they expect the incident to continue throughout the night.
In an earlier statement, police said there were no injuries.
Nearby residents are asked to stay in their homes. Calgarians are also being asked to avoid the area.
The residence is located in the 300 block of Penswood Way S.E.
"We currently have multiple police resources on scene and have contained the suspect residence," police said in a statement early Thursday evening.
"We are asking nearby residents to shelter in place and take direction from officers on scene."
Police request people do not share the location of officers on the scene on social media. They say they'll update the public on social media as events develop.
Anyone who has been unable to access their home because of this incident is being asked to find alternative accommodations for the evening. Police say assistance is available at 403-266-1234.
"We apologize for any inconvenience as we look to resolve this matter safely for all," the police statement said.
