Separate shooting, stabbing just blocks apart in southeast Calgary send 2 to hospital

Two men are in hospital after a separate shooting and stabbing that happened just blocks apart in southeast Calgary on Sunday evening.

Shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m., and the stabbing shortly before 9 p.m.

Two men are in hospital after a separate shooting and stabbing that happened just blocks apart in southeast Calgary on Sunday evening.

Police responded to the 1800 block of 42nd Street S.E. in Forest Lawn at 6:52 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

A man was standing outside his home when he was shot, and was taken to hospital in serious, non-life-threatening condition. No offenders have been taken in to custody police said.

Roughly two hours later, at 8:46 p.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1700 block of 44th Street S.E.

A man was taken to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

Police said it's not believed the two incidents are connected, but said as of 9:20 p.m. Sunday it was too early to rule a connection out definitively.
