Speed and alcohol factors in fatal weekend crash at Beacon Hill, police say
The driver, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene
Speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal weekend crash where a careening vehicle plunged down two embankments and end up in a shopping centre parking lot, police confirmed on Monday.
The driver, a man in his 40s, was speeding east on 112th Avenue N.W. in a white Mazda A3i late Saturday when he apparently lost control at a curve in the road, police said.
The vehicle went down an embankment, launched over the southbound lanes of Sarcee Trail and went down a second embankment before landing in a parking lot in Beacon Hill Shopping Centre.
Calgary police said they were called to the scene at Sarcee Trail N.W. north of Stoney Trail at about 11:45 p.m. They found the deceased, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact the CPS traffic section at 403-567-4000.
