A speeding SUV was caught traveling at 152 kilometres an hour on an Airdrie highway Saturday morning, police say.

Airdrie RCMP said one of their traffic unit officers stopped the Mercedes SUV along Highway 566 just east of Crossiron Mills Mall shortly before noon.

The speed limit on the highway is 100 kilometres per hour.

The officer found two adults and four children, ranging from ages four to 11, inside the vehicle. Three of the children belonged to the two adults and the fourth belonged to a friend.

Driving conditions at the time were poor due to heavy fog and police said the road was slippery and wet from the rain and snow.

The driver, a 37-year-old Strathmore man, is facing charges for speeding and will make a mandatory court appearance.
