A town that calls itself the Star Trek capital of Canada is getting into the television business.

On Sept. 26, Vulcan, Alta. launched vTV — a multi-channel, internet-based network that features live music, comedy and independent film.

It's also producing an original interstellar series called Vulcan: To Boldly Go.

"This is about Trekkies and for Trekkies," said Vern Wutzke, one of the executive producers of vTV.

He says the show was inspired by the 1986 film Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, in which Admiral Kirk and Mr. Spock go back in time to 20th-century Earth.

"We've got a galaxy fleet crew that travels back from the 28th century and starts to explore 21st-century Earth and the phenomenon of Trekkies," said Wutzke.

The first episode of Season 1 was filmed in both Vulcan and Calgary.

Wutzke expects the show to debut later this fall.
