West Bragg Creek residents fed up with speeders on Township Road 232
Family dog injured and numerous wild animals killed along popular route to K-Country
Some people living in Bragg Creek are fed up with motorists disregarding the speed limit along a busy stretch of road in their community.
Several animals have been killed or injured in the last several weeks by people speeding along West Bragg Road, also known as Township Road 232, residents say.
The route leads to several popular hiking trails in Kananaskis Country.
MacKenzie Walsh, who lives along the route with her husband and three year-old daughter, says the posted speeds vary from 40 to 70 km/h, but many drivers whiz past at twice the limit.
"Already this year we've had five fawns killed on the side of the road, one baby moose and several adult deer," she said.
Walsh's dog Lucy is recovering from broken facial bones after it was hit by a car about a month ago.
Walsh is worried something even worse is going to happen.
"All it takes is one kid kicking a ball and chasing it out or someone's dog running out and a kid chasing after it," she said.
Edith Konstantinov also lives along the road with her three children.
"I think they don't care, I think they're in a rush and it's about themselves and they don't take the time to consider the safety of others, whether it be children, wildlife, pets, you name it," she said.
Both Walsh and Konstantinov are asking for better signage and for local law enforcement to send a message by setting up speed traps.
