A 20-year-old woman has died after a hit-and-run on Highway 1 Sunday morning, according to a news release from Canmore RCMP.

Police said the female pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

The woman was found in the eastbound lane of the highway after police received a call Sunday morning from someone who said they saw "something suspicious" on the road, said Cpl. Gina Slaney.

"So police responded and that's when the body was discovered."

It is unknown what time the woman was hit by a vehicle.

The eastbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway near the Canmore Visitor Information Centre was re-opened after being closed temporarily while RCMP investigated.

Canmore RCMP are asking anyone who may have information to contact them or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
