New Brunswick Liberal MP and cabinet minister Claudette Bradshaw announced Friday that she will not run in the next federal election, making her one of several prominent politicians who have decided to get out of politics.

Bradshaw, who has served as federal labour minister and the minister in charge of homelessness, said she wants to spend more time with her family.

First elected to the House of Commons in 1997, she was re-elected in 2000 and 2004. She is currently minister of state for human resources development.

Bradshaw told a radio station in Moncton that when she first got into federal politics she didn't plan to stay for more than 10 years.

Other well-known politicians who won't seek re-election include former Liberal cabinet ministers Don Boudria and David Anderson, former NDP Leader Ed Broadbent and Conservative MP Randy White.
