Large portions of northwestern Alberta were without 911 access earlier Monday due to a service outage.

Access to 911 is now operational in impacted regions through partner agencies, an updated alert from the City of Grande Prairie says.

An emergency alert issued just before 12:30 p.m. Monday said there was an outage, which affected the ability to call 911 on both cellphones and landlines.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the alert was downgraded to an advisory.

If you have an emergency, dial 911 and if your call disconnects, please try again, the advisory states.

If it doesn't work, residents are being asked to contact emergency service providers including RCMP, EMS or their local fire department.

A spokesperson for Telus said they are still investigating the cause of the outage.
