Body of Mexico blast victim home
The body of the Ardrossan, Alta. woman killed in an explosion at a resort hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico is back home.
Darlene Ferguson, 51, a mother of three, was at the Grand Riviera Princess Hotel for her son's wedding when an explosion tore through the lobby Sunday. Seven people were killed.
Ferguson's body returned home Tuesday night.
Ferguson's brother, Barry Hoffman, read a statement Wednesday on behalf of the family
"Due to the nature and severity of the tragedy, we wish to as a family have our privacy respected so that we can mourn the loss with family and friends," he said.
"We would like to, however, extend our condolences to all the families and loved ones that have been affected by this terrible event."
The family also thanked the Canadian Consultate in Mexico for its help and WestJet Airlines for allowing the family to come back home on Tuesday together.
Two other Albertans were killed in the blast. Christopher Charmont, 41, and his nine-year-old son, John, were from Drumheller, Alta.Investigators are still trying to find the cause of the explosion.
