Helicopter flyby, road closures expected downtown for Game 2 of Stanley Cup final
An RCAF Chinook helicopter will fly over Rogers Place
Around Rogers Place, excitement is expected to skyrocket as the Oilers take on the Florida Panthers in Game 2.
But the fans' enthusiasm won't be the only thing soaring high around Edmonton's downtown Ice District on Friday evening.
A Royal Canadian Air Force CH-147F Chinook helicopter will also be doing a flyby before the game.
In a news release, the RCAF said the helicopter from 1 Wing's 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron will fly over the arena at 5:15 p.m.
The CH-147F Chinook is a tandem-rotor helicopter that is almost 16 metres long.
The RCAF said the flyover will be carefully controlled, and the helicopter will fly at least 500 feet (about 152 metres) above the area.
For fans planning on heading downtown for the game, the Edmonton Police Service is reminding drivers that 104th Avenue between 101st Street and 105th Street will be closed to vehicles at the end of the Oilers game.
Eastbound 10th5 Avenue will also be closed from 102nd Street to 101st Street, and police say commuters should expect significant traffic delays.
In a news release, EPS said these roads will be closed for all Oilers home games during the Stanley Cup final.
