13-year-old boy dead after southeast Edmonton hit and run: police

A 13-year-old boy died early Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike in southeast Edmonton. Police are still searching for the suspect, who fled the scene of the collision.

Update: Edmonton police said on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, that officers tracked down the vehicle connected to the fatal hit and run of a 13-year-old.

Police said said they found the 2017 blue Mazda 3 at a repair shop in Edmonton, and damage to the front end and driver's side had not been repaired.

Police said officers recovered the vehicle thanks to a tip from the public and believe there are other witnesses with valuable information — urging them to come forward.


A 13-year-old boy is dead after a being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in southeast Edmonton early Wednesday morning, police say.

Police said in a news release that officers have identified the suspect vehicle, but are still searching for it and the driver who fled the collision scene.

Paramedics called the Edmonton Police Service for help shortly after 4 a.m. Wednesday, after they found a 13-year-old boy in medical distress at 48th Street and 34th Avenue, near the Minchau neighbourhood.

He died from his injuries shortly after.

The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of 34th Avenue, east of 48th Street, police said.

The vehicle is believed to be a blue 2014 to 2018 Mazda 3 sedan or hatchback. Investigators say the vehicle was damaged on the front end and driver side.

The EPS major collision investigations section has taken over the investigation.

Anyone with information about the driver or the suspect vehicle, or dash camera footage from the Mill Woods area that recorded the collision or suspect, is asked to contact police.
