Poor air quality closes Gift Lake School in northern Alberta
Concerns about air quality temporarily closed Gift Lake School in northern Alberta.
Despite considerable efforts by staff and experts to address air quality issues in the school, staff and students continue to report health problems, said Donna Barrett, superintendent with the Northland School Division.

“We feel at this time that the safest course of action is to close the school and provide a temporary solution for the education of the students,” Barrett said.
The goal is to get students back in class as soon as possible, but in the meantime teachers are giving students homework packages.
A public meeting is set for Tuesday at the Gift Lake Community Hall to provide more information and options for students both short and long term.
Gift Lake is a Metis settlement about 85 kilometres northeast of High Prairie.
