There was a time in the 1980s when Cabbage Patch Kids dolls were among the most sought-after of all toys. The dolls were so special that some Edmonton businesses even went out of there way to cater to the doll crowd.

In September 1985, the second annual Cabbage Patch Doll Birthday Party was held at the Chateau Lacombe in Edmonton.

There was a time in the 1980s when Cabbage Patch Kids dolls were among the most sought-after of all toys.

The dolls were so special that some Edmonton businesses even went out of there way to cater to the doll crowd.

Downtown, the Chateau Lacombe Hotel held its second annual Cabbage Patch Kids Birthday Party on Sept. 8, 1985, complete with a banquet-style meal and giant birthday cake.

"Dolls should be treated like people," one girl at the party told CBC's Kas Roussy.

Funds raised from the event went towards the Northern Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.
