Teen charged after goose nest destroyed

A Sherwood Park, Alta. teen is facing a charge under the Migratory Birds Act for destroying the nest of a Canada goose.

A Sherwood Park, Alta. teen is facing a charge under The Migratory Birds Convention Act for destroying the nest of a Canada goose.

Last Friday, a group of young people had gathered in a park area near the Sherwood Park arena around 3 p.m., said RCMP.

A nearby resident called police after seeing one of the youths approached the nest, scare off the goose, remove one of the eggs and destroy the nest.

The goose was unharmed.

A 16-year-old is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on June 28.

It is illegal to harass migratory birds  such as geese, albatross, heron, crane and gulls or interfere with nests or eggs.
