Police say the body of a swimmer who has been missing in Lake Erie for almost three days has been recovered.

The Niagara Regional Police Service say the Waterloo, Ont., man in his 30s  was found around 9:55 a.m. on Sunday along the shoreline of Holloway Bay near Fort Erie, Ont.

Police are not identifying him out of respect for his family.

The swimmer initially went missing on Aug. 27, after a total of six people — including two adult men and four children — were caught in high waves.

Officers believe the man in his 30s, the only one who wasn't rescued, drowned in the lake.
