Halton police have arrested a man they say broke into a Kelseys in Burlington to have a drink.

Police say the alarm sounded at 5:20 a.m. Saturday morning. Officers went to the restaurant at 777 Guelph Line and noticed someone had broken open the door with a rock.

The officers heard someone yelling inside the restaurant, police said in a media release. Moments later, a man appeared at the front door with a drink in his hand.

The man had broken into the restaurant and drank some of the alcohol, police say, and smashed some of the bottles. He'd put some alcohol in a bag. He'd also taken "several large kitchen knives" from the restaurant kitchen area and put them near the front door, police say.

An arrest happened without incident.

A 34-year-old Burlington man is charged with breaking and entering and committing mischief, and mischief to property not exceeding $5,000. He scheduled to appear in Milton court June 17.
