A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre, the city's medical officer of health, Dr. Elizabeth Richardson announced Tuesday.
The outbreak was declared on Feb. 15.
According to the city's website, there are seven cases — two involving inmates and five involving prison staff.
The outbreak at Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre is one of 18 current outbreaks in the city.
In an email to CBC News the city says, "We have been in regular communication with the facility to assess the outbreak and will be providing any support/guidance on testing as well as infection prevention and control practices."
