2 injured after vehicles topple over at Dofasco in separate incidents
A Hamilton woman was injured while trying to move a vehicle involved in the first accident
Emergency crews have been called to two workplace accidents at ArcelorMittal Dofasco in the past two days.
On Jan. 1 around 4:30 p.m. police say they were called to 1505 Kenilworth Avenue North after a third-party contractor driving a "dump style machine" crashed and toppled over.
The driver, a 23-year-old Hamilton man, had to be extricated from the machine, say police. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.
Police say the Ministry of Labour was contacted and the machine involved was taken away to be investigated.
During the crash a diesel spill also occurred, according to police. The steelmaker secured the spill and the Ministry of Environment was notified, but did not attend.
Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, while moving the dump-style vehicle involved in the first crash, police say a second vehicle tipped over, injuring its driver.
Police say the 26-year-old Hamilton woman was transported to hospital for examination, but her injuries are not considered serious.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating both incidents.
