Two people are dead following a single-vehicle collision on the Claremont Access, Hamilton police said Sunday.

The road was closed both ways when police responded around 3 a.m., Hamilton Police Service said in a post on social media site X. It re-opened around 12:30 p.m.

A Chevrolet was going south on the access when it left the road and hit a stone wall, police said in a news release Sunday afternoon. The driver and passenger were found dead at the scene.

The access bridges the upper and lower cities, connecting Upper James Street to Wellington Street S., and Victoria Avenue S.

Police are asking any witnesses to come forward and for the public to share relevant security or dashcam footage.
