Hamilton police detectives say they are trying to track down a drone that allegedly interfered with a plane that was taking off from the John C. Munro International Airport Friday afternoon.
It happened around 1 p.m., police say. That's when a private plane was taking off from the airport and a drone allegedly flew close to its path.
"The investigation revealed the drone flew within 500 feet of the aircraft, endangering its operation," a police news release reads. "Police attended the area but were unsuccessful in locating the operator and drone."
Police say they are reminding people to operate drones safety.
Penalties for violations regarding drone usage can include maximum fines of $3,000.
