Hamilton police called to student home after person heard in backyard
Handful of alleged prowling incidents in McMaster student neighbourhood over past month
Hamilton police were called to a student home in Westdale early Thursday, after another report that a male was in the backyard.
A resident heard a noise outside shortly after 1 a.m., and called police, said police spokeswoman Lorraine Edwards.
The incident is the latest in a series of reported prowling or break and enter calls in the neighbourhood. Edwards said police can't say if this incident is in any way connected.
"We're investigating all incidents in the area and looking for any possible links," said Edwards.
Edwards said the police dogs tracked the area, but did not find anyone. There was no attempt to break in, she said.
Edwards also noted that the residence was all-male McMaster University students.
Police were also called for an alleged prowling incident on Tuesday in the same neighbourhood, which is near McMaster University.
On Wednesday, police cited three incidents is just over a month involving an alleged prowler, which include two home invasions from August where women woke up to find strangers in their room. Both Hamilton police and McMaster University issued warnings to the community to take safety precautions.
Police said there were also other break and enter incidents in they area they are looking at.
Police are investigating Thursday's incident as a case of trespassing at night. Police do not have a description for the male.
The house was on a corner and there is no fencing around the backyard, said Edwards, noting the male may have simply been someone walking home at night.
Police are reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings and be vigilant about locking doors and windows.
