45-year-old Hamilton woman arrested after anti-Black 'hate motivated assaults,' police say

A 45-year-old woman has been arrested, Hamilton police say, after a series of "hate motivated assaults."

A 45-year-old woman has been arrested, Hamilton police say, after a series of "hate motivated assaults." 

Police responded on May 12 and 13 to "separate incidents all involving the same female suspect" and the "attacker could be heard uttering anti-Black hate speech," they said. 

The victims were between the ages of 14 and 24, police say, and one suffered minor injuries.

Police said the incidents took place in "lower Stoney Creek." 

Melissa Deman, of Hamilton, is facing four assault charges.

Police say the Hate Crime Unit is assisting in the investigation.
