9 fire units sent to Devil's Punch Bowl for rope rescue
A couple who were using the glow of their cell phones to navigate the steep path by The Devil's Punchbowl at 3 a.m. ended up calling firefighters for help getting out Thursday morning.
The couple had been using their phones to try to get around, but "became disoriented" and had to call for help, said Hamilton Fire spokesperson Claudio Mostacci. Nine trucks were dispatched to help.
"It wasn't a good idea," Mostacci said. "That area can be treacherous enough during the day."
Four firefighters were sent down the path in harnesses to lead the couple back up the path. All told, it took about an hour and a half to get them to safety.
No one was injured.
Mostacci noted that most rope rescues tend to happen during the day.
