Teen arrested in shooting inside crowded Hamilton Tim Hortons

Police have arrested a Hamilton teen after a shooting inside a crowded Tim Hortons in central Hamilton this weekend. Officers arrested the male, who Staff Sgt. Scott Balinson describes as being under the age of 16, shortly after the shooting near Tim Hortons Field stadium on Saturday. Police were called to a Tim Hortons at Barton and Chapple Streets at 1:53 p.m., Balinson said.

Internet helps police find Dundas arson suspect

Less than 12 hours after releasing a video of a suspect, Hamilton police arrested someone this weekend in the case of a series of suspected Dundas arsons — with some help from the internet.

Police released a surveillance video on social media just after 4 p.m. on Friday of what they say was the suspect of a dumpster fire at a McDonald's on Cootes Drive.

The mother of an autistic boy who can't speak says her family was targeted by a stranger offering false hope after she posted a video of her son online.  

"I can't believe I fell for it. Too good to be true. I couldn't help it I guess," Kirsti Mardell of Fort McMurray, Alta., told Go Public.
