Who's running in Hamilton's municipal election this fall

Eighty-four people are running in this fall's municipal election, including 11 for mayor and 14 for Ward 3. That's one less than last year.

Eighty-four people are running in this fall's municipal election, including 11 for mayor and 14 for Ward 3. That's one fewer than last year.

The deadline for nominations closed on Friday afternoon. There are challengers in every city ward, with the highest number in wards where the incumbents aren't running. 

In Ward 1, sitting councillor Brian McHattie is running for mayor, as is Brad Clark in Ward 9. Coun. Russ Powers of Ward 13 in Dundas is retiring, and Coun. Bernie Morelli, long-time representative of Ward 3, died earlier this year.

Eighty-five people ran last year.

There are also 37 people running to be Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board trustees, and 25 running for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. 

Catholic board chair Patrick Daly was acclaimed in Ward 7 in Ancaster. Trustee Carolyn Cornale was acclaimed for Wards 12, 13, 14 and 15 with the Catholic board.

There are challengers in every ward of the public school board.
