HWDSB shuts down in-person classes at Hamilton elementary school for a week
A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at the school on March 18
Starting on Monday, Dr. J. E. Davey Elementary School will shut down in person classes for a week.
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board announced Monday that students would take part in remote learning up to and including Friday, March 26.
An announcement from the board on Saturday said that "Due to the number of staff close contacts identified by Hamilton Public Health Services, the school is unable to provide appropriate staffing levels to ensure safety and support student programming."
A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at the school on March 18. The board says Dr. J. E. Davey "is the second school to move from in-person to remote learning since January 2021." Glenwood School was the first school to close, HWDSB says.
In the press release Shawn McKillop, communications manager, said "Dr. J. E. Davey educators will use The Hub and MS Teams to provide real-time and independent learning to students throughout the school day. School staff will work to deploy technology to families who indicated they needed a device for learning."
The release says students will be allowed back in school on Monday March 29 and families will informed if there's an extension to remote learning.
Before and after school programs will be closed while the child care program provided by Wesley for infants, toddlers and preschoolers will be open.
