The City of Hamilton says commuters can continue to expect delays near the city's core on King Street East due to a road closure.

The stretch of King Street between Emerald Street and East Avenue will stay closed until "it is deemed safe" to reopen because of ongoing demolition happening at two buildings, the city said Tuesday afternoon.

A portion of Emerald Street North at King Street East is also closed.

On Friday, part of the front of the building at 457 King Street East collapsed around 1:30 p.m.

No one was hurt.

On Saturday, the city tweeted workers expected to have the work done on Sunday but "unforeseen structural issues" and the weather on Monday have kept the road closed.

"We appreciate the community's continued patience," the city said in a tweet Tuesday.
