The McDonald's location at 20 Rymal Road East is closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement emailed to CBC, a McDonald's spokesperson confirmed a worker at the restaurant received a positive result for the new coronavirus Thursday.

The employee in question worked on March 15 from noon to 8 p.m., according Ryma Boussoufa.

"Out of an abundance of caution, McDonald's Canada made the decision to immediately shut down the restaurant for a thorough cleaning and sanitation by 3rd party cleaning experts," she added.

The chain is now in contact with Ontario Public Health to confirm the report, said Boussoufa. The restaurant will reopen once public health officials say it's OK to do so.

In the meantime, all staff members who may have been in contact with the employee have been directed to self-isolate until further information is available.

Customers who were at the restaurant on the 15th are asked to contact Ontario Public Health for any questions.
