Hamilton police officer, 47, charged with assault, choking and mischief

Hamilton police say one of its own officers has been charged with assault, choking and mischief.

Hamilton police say one of its own officers has been charged with assault, choking and mischief.

The service did not name the officer and provided few details about the nature of the charges.

Spokesperson Jackie Penman said the incident happened Friday morning, but would not disclose where to protect the victim's identity.

She added the officer and victim knew each other.

The officer isn't being named to protect the identity of the victim, according to the service.

Police say the 47-year-old officer has been with the service for 16 years.

The accused is appearing in court on Friday and is suspended with pay.
