Know your riding — Canada Votes 2025: Niagara West

Niagara West stretches from Lake Ontario in the north to Lake Erie in the south. 

It encompasses western parts of the City of St. Catharines, the towns of Grimsby, Lincoln and Pelham, the townships of West Lincoln and Wainfleet and communities like Beamsville and Wellandport.

The relatively rural riding has a population of 112,065. The median household income is $101,000.

Conservative Dean Allison has held the riding since 2004. 

At the time, it was Niagara West—Glanbrook and then in 2013, after a significant redistribution, it was renamed Niagara West.

Allison is seeking reelection on April 28. He's facing the Liberal's Jennifer Korstanken, the NDP's Justin Abando, the People's Party of Canada's Ryan Anderson, and the Christian Heritage Party of Canada's Dave Bylsma.

CBC Hamilton sent a survey to major party candidates, or their party representatives. Their responses, edited for length and clarity, are reflected below in alphabetical order by the candidate's last name.

Justin Abando, NDP

Dean Allison, Conservative

Allison did not respond to CBC Hamilton's survey before publication.

He has been the riding's MP since its creation in 2004. According to his website, he's a Wilfrid Laurier University graduate with a degree in economics. He started and ran "a number of successful businesses in Southern Ontario," before stepping into politics.

According to his website, Allison "has brought hundreds of millions of dollars," to Niagara West and helped "thousands of residents, businesses and organizations with a variety of issues related to the federal government"

Ryan Anderson, People's Party of Canada

Anderson, 47, is an electronics engineer and former entrepreneur.

He said Canada is in "serious decline due to mass immigration," which has left the "Canadian dream" out of reach.

He said the PPC wants to pause immigration until the housing crisis is resolved, set a zero per cent inflation target and end capital gains tax.

"This will be achieved by being responsible with Canadians' money, by balancing the first budget written, by cutting out the senseless wars and money laundering scams like the [United Nations] and [World Economic Forum], stop the repetitive fake climate scam money laundering and tell Canadians the truth," he said.

Jennifer Korstanje, Liberal

Korstanje did not respond to CBC Hamilton's survey before publication. She's the Ward 3 councillor for the Town of Grimsby. 

According to her website, Korstanje's contributions include "establishing an accessibility section at the local Christmas parade … and advocating for the launch of recreational drop-in programs for residents with disabilities."

"She has also hosted information sessions to address rental issues and evictions. By bringing in legal experts, she has worked to empower residents with knowledge about their rights under the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board," read her website.

Also running: 

• Dave Bylsma, Christian Heritage Party of Canada: Bylsma was mayor of West Lincoln from 2018 to 2022. According to his website, he has run eight times with the Christian Heritage Party of Canada.
