Sewing needle, razor blade reportedly found inside Halloween candy in Brantford
The candy was picked up in the Brier Park and Eagle Place areas
Brantford police say they have now received two reports of tainted Halloween candy — one appearing to contain a sewing needle, the other a razor blade.
The piece of Macintosh candy was picked up near the Brier Park area.
A sewing needle was inside the candy.
The razor blade was reportedly found in a chocolate bar.
The citizen who found it told police they were trick-or-treating in Eagle Place.
Robin Matthews-Osmond, a corporate communications manager with local police, called the report was "disturbing."
"Reports of this nature are disturbing to receive at any point, but even more so this Halloween as children and families are trying their best to celebrate and enjoy the occasion responsibly amid the COVID-19 pandemic."
Police hope everyone will be vigilant of any candy collected during Halloween.
"The Brantford Police Service is asking that the community be made aware of this incident and are reminding parents and caregivers to thoroughly check candy collected from trick-or-treating prior to consumption, and discard any items which are open and appear suspicious," reads a release from officers.
