Second woman in Westdale wakes up to find strange man in her room: police
Police say the man ran off after she screamed for help
Hamilton police are warning people to lock their doors and windows after two incidents where Westdale women woke up to find a stranger in their room.
A woman awoke to find a strange man standing in her bedroom on Tuesday morning, Hamilton police say.
It happened around 6:15 a.m. in the area of Bond Street South between Main Street and King Street, detectives say.
According to a police news release, the woman woke up and saw the man, and then screamed for help.
The man then fled, police say.
He got into the house through an unlocked front door.
"The victim is unable to provide a description of the suspect," according to the release.
Police say the intrusion is similar to another incident that happened earlier this month where a man allegedly crawled through a second-storey window and sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman.
That suspect also fled after the woman screamed for help.
The service says it's too early to say whether or not the cases are linked, but noted they do have things in common.
Residents are asked to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report it to Hamilton police at 905-546-4861 or McMaster University security at 905-525-9140,
"There is no guaranteed way to prevent a sexual assault," stated police in a media release. "Sharing the details of this assault is intended to provide the community information, and people are encouraged to trust their instincts."
