How it happened: The bombing of Flight 182

An interactive look at how the bombing happened in June 1985.

Air India Flight 182 went down in the Atlantic Ocean near Ireland on June 23, 1985. All 329 people aboard were killed, including 280 Canadians. A separate luggage bomb destined for a second Air India flight killed two Japanese baggage handlers at Tokyo's Narita airport the same day.

Former Supreme Court Justice John Major, who led the inquiry into the bombings, referred to it as the "worst mass murder in Canadian history."

The following graphic looks at the series of events on that tragic day.
