Waterloo riding: Liberal Bardish Chagger elected
Liberal candidate Bardish Chagger has been elected in the riding of Waterloo, defeating incumbent Conservative Peter Braid.
With about 80 per cent of the polls counted, Chagger has 49.3 per cent of the popular vote. Braid has 32.7 per cent, NDP candidate Diane Freeman has 14.8 per cent and Green candidate Richard Walsh has 2.9 per cent.
Waterloo was renamed from "Kitchener-Waterloo" for the 2015 federal election, and the small section of Kitchener formerly included in the riding was removed in the redistribution.
In the 2011 election, Conservative Peter Braid won with 41 per cent of the vote share.
On Sept. 14, the candidates for Waterloo took part in a panel discussion on CBC K-W's The Morning Edition. You can find that coverage here.
