Wellington-Halton Hills riding: Conservative Michael Chong re-elected

Conservative Michael Chong has been re-elected as the MP for Wellington-Halton Hills with 51.1 per cent of the popular vote.

Conservative incumbent Michael Chong has been re-elected in Wellington-Halton Hills with 51.1 per cent of the popular vote. With over 90 per cent of polls reporting, Liberal candidate Don Trant stands in second with 36.3 per cent of the popular vote. Anne Gajerski-Cauley of the NDP is third with 8.3 per cent.

The Wellington-Halton Hills riding includes the towns of Erin and Halton Hills, as well as the Wellington County townships of Centre Wellington, Guelph/Eramosa and Puslinch. Its boundaries have shifted slightly in this election, with some portions allocated to Kitchener-Conestoga and Guelph in the 2015 federal election.

Conservative MP Michael Chong is the incumbent in the riding. Chong was first elected in 2004 with more than 63% of the vote. Chong is known for introducing the Reform Act, a controversial bill that aimed to rejjig the balance of power between MPs and party leaders. The Senate passed that bill in June 2015.
