- Lab tests show purple drug is carfentanil, WRPS say
- Staggeringly high' number of overdoses in Waterloo region last year
As well, officers seized a replica assault rifle, a hunting rifle as well as marijuana and prescription medication.
The search warrant was executed around 5:30 p.m.
Three men, age 29, 31 and 42, and two women, age 20 and 22, all from Kitchener face a number of drug and weapons charges.
Police did not give a description of the carfentanil found. The Waterloo Region Integrated Drugs Strategy issued an overdose alert last month after a purple, playdough-like drug tested positive for carfentanil. It was the first time the powerful opioid had been found in that form in the region. Carfentanil has also been found in powdered form and in pills.
