Conestoga College receives nearly $7M to lead national apprenticeship program
Program aims to encourage women, Indigenous peoples and others to pursue career in trades
Conestoga College will receive nearly $7 million from the federal government to help implement a national pre-welding apprenticeship program.
The $6,908,138 in funding is part of the federal government's new Skilled Trades Awareness and Readiness program.
The program aims to encourage more women, Indigenous peoples, new comers and people with disabilities to pursue a career in the trades.
Conestoga College will lead the national welding pre-apprenticeship training program, which will be delivered through several partner institutions across Canada.
The partnership with Conestoga College will help people in Waterloo region "become ready for good jobs in the skilled trades, build better lives for themselves and make their communities stronger," Marwan Tabbara, MP for Kitchener South-Hespeler, said in a release after Friday's announcement.
